This stretch of water, the old man goes on, was also the mirror which showed the reflection of one of the Emperor's hawks after it had flown away during a hunt, and thus led to the bird's recapture. Saying that he has the mirror which is carried by the devil he spoke of, he disappears into the mound. The priest prays there and after a time the devil appears with the mirror.
